Frequently asked questions
Are these classes approved for DONA recertification?
Yes. DONA International approves every class on this page for continuing education contact hours. I'm a DONA International approved continuing education provider (CEP002).
Can I use these hours if I'm certified through ICEA, Lamaze, or another organization?
ICEA and Lamaze accept DONA-approved contact hours under their own recertification rules, and so do many other organizations. Each one sets its own limits, so check your organization's current requirements before you count on a class.
Can I take these classes online?
Yes. All 16 are recorded and self-paced, so you can watch around your work and on-call schedule. Each class also comes with an invitation to talk it out with me at my Drop-In Q&A, a live Zoom hour I run twice a month, once during the day and once in the evening.
How do I get my certificate?
Finish the class and its short evaluation, and you get a certificate with your CE contact hours. Save it with your recertification paperwork.
How much do the classes cost?
Most one-hour classes are $19. Every price is in the table above, and each class page shows the current price.
Do I have to be DONA certified to take them?
No. Any doula can take them, whichever organization certified you, or if you never certified at all.
Who teaches the classes?
I teach all of them except Doula's Guide to Filing Insurance Forms, which Dusti Murray teaches. I've been a doula since 1990 and a DONA-approved birth doula trainer for more than 20 years. I've trained more than 10,000 doulas, and I hold a PhD in public health.
