Doula Consultations: Everything I’ve Written About Getting Hired

The consultation is where most doula businesses are won or lost, and it is the part almost nobody trains you for. You can be excellent at births and still lose families at the coffee shop table. Everything I have written about that conversation is collected here, roughly in the order you will need it.
Practice the conversation before it counts
If you only do one thing on this page, do this one. I built Aria, a virtual client, who runs a full practice consultation with you. She asks what real families ask, including the pricing and backup questions that trip people up, and she gives you specific feedback at the end. Run it as many times as you want.

If you want to work on this properly
My Master the Doula Interview class is built around this whole conversation, from the first inquiry through the ask. It is $49 and includes 2 CE contact hours. If the part you are stuck on is the number itself rather than the conversation, start with Confidently Set Your Doula Fee instead, which is $41.
