March Maintenance: Simple Ways to Keep Your Doula Business Running Smoothly

Why Monthly Maintenance Matters

Running a doula business means wearing many hats. Between client work, on-call schedules, and professional development, it’s easy to overlook the small—but crucial—details that keep your business running smoothly. Over the years, I’ve learned that even when nothing changes, things break—links stop working, forms don’t submit, and information becomes outdated. That’s why I’ve made business maintenance a regular habit, and now I’m sharing it with you!

Whether you’re a brand-new doula or you’ve been at this for years, this March Maintenance Checklist will help ensure your business stays in top shape so clients can find and book you with ease.

March Maintenance Checklist

Here are five small but impactful tasks to help you stay organized and bookable this month.

Test Your Contact Form & Links

Why it matters: Clients need a seamless way to reach you. A broken form or outdated link could mean lost opportunities.
Action step: Visit your website and social media profiles, click every link, and submit your own contact form to confirm everything works as expected.

Update Your IBCLC & Lactation Support List (IBCLC Day is March 6)

Why it matters: Doulas are often the go-to resource for lactation support, and your referrals should be up to date.
Action step: Double-check the IBCLCs, lactation counselors, and support groups on your resource list. Make sure you have current contact info, and consider reaching out to confirm availability. [Link to my Instagram post about IBCLC Day for reference.]

Check Your Google Business Listing

Why it matters: Many parents find doulas through Google. If your listing is outdated or incomplete, you could be missing potential clients.
Action step: Google your business name and ensure your contact info, service descriptions, and photos are current. If you don’t have a Google Business profile yet, now is a great time to set one up!

Follow Up on Unanswered Inquiries

Why it matters: Potential clients get busy or forget to respond. A friendly follow-up can turn a missed inquiry into a booked client.
Action step: Go through old DMs, emails, or contact form submissions and check in with anyone who expressed interest but didn’t follow through. Keep it short and warm—something like, “Hey [Name], I just wanted to check in and see if you had any questions about working together. I’d love to support you!”

Post a ‘How to Work with Me’ Reminder

Why it matters: Sometimes, people are interested but don’t know the next step to book you. Action step: Create a quick social media post or story that walks potential clients through your booking process. Keep it simple: 1. Fill out my contact form. 2. Schedule a free consult. 3. Secure your support!

Looking Ahead to April

Next month brings Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17) and National Infertility Awareness Week (April 24-30)—both great opportunities to review your support offerings and update your content. Stay tuned for the April Maintenance Checklist to help you prepare!
